Mt Eden Village Centre News

Dear all

It’s April and with daylight saving at an end for a few months and longer nights settling in, we have a focus on our music and movement classes, information about Easter Services, cricketing legendJohn Wright at Village Music and our Markets at the Mt Eden Village Centre.

Synergy Dance classes are easy beginner West Coast Swing classes held at the Centre every Tuesday from 7.30-9.30pm.  West Coast Swing is a partner dance where the man (usually) leads the lady back and forth along a ‘dance slot’ on the floor.  No partner is required however so turn up alone or with friends.  More information is here.

Swing Out Central teaches solo jazz, dancing to the same kind of tunes as partnered swing dancing but on your own.  Classes are on Monday evenings with a beginner class at 7.00pm and Intermediates at 8.15pm. At Swing Out Central you’ll learn anything from classic moves and routines and how to put these together in your own way.  Find more information here.

Grace takes her very popular Yoga classes in the Hall every Tuesday at 6.30pmWednesday at 9.30am and Thursday at 6.00pm.  At just $10 per session it is a great activity to take up this autumn.

We have two new Yoga class starting at the Village Centre this month.  Instructor Kaviti Devi Kaur will be taking classes in Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan.  Classes are every Tuesday in the Lounge at 6.00pm and sessions are $15 each.  Andrea Hudson takes a Hatha Yoga class every Wednesday at 6.00pm in the Small Meeting Room in the Church.  The class is slow and gentle but suitable for all levels, $10 per session.

For our young ones, tutor Tom Wardle from pForm.nz has DanceSinging and Dramaclasses every Tuesday afternoon in the Hall.  Tailored to specific age groups, Tom’s classes are very popular.  More information and to book is here.

Baby Sensory’s award winning baby development classes restart on the morning of Tuesday 17 April.  You and your baby will experience different activities designed to support baby’s sensory development.  More information about Baby Sensory classes can be found here.

The Mt Eden Methodist Congregation invites you to join them this Easter Sunday in their beautiful historic Church.  Services are held this and every Sunday at 10.00am with tea afterwards in the Lounge.  On Easter Friday a procession will stop by the Church for a reading some time between 9.00-10.00am.  On the 3rd Sunday of every month we have the Fiji-Indian Fellowship worship service at 3.00pm.  Everyone is welcome.

Not to be missed this month is Village Music’s evening with New Zealand cricketing great John Wright and The Sou’Westers on Friday 13 April.  John launched his debut album Red Skies in 2017 and returns to the stage at the Village Centre with his insightful songs and stories about travelling the world as an international cricketer and coach.  The Sou’Westers began playing together in 2010 and feature Aly Cook, Liam Ryan and Dean Hetherington.  Expect an evening of fine musicianship, rich harmonies and tales from the road.  Doors open 8.00pm and tickets are $35 here.

On Saturday 14 April, the Mt Eden Village Craft Market takes over the Centre.  Open from 10.00am to 4.00pm, the Market features items handmade in New Zealand by expert crafters.  It’s a great opportunity to support local artists and find loads of beautiful handmade treasures, perfect for gifts.

The Mt Eden Wellbeing Market is here on the last Saturday of every month.  This month it is Saturday 28 April at 10.00am-3.00pm.  Central Auckland’s regular monthly mind, body and spirit market has natural health therapies, advice and nutritional support, on-site massage, natural first aid kits and home remedies and much, much more.  More information is here.
Looking ahead to May we are excited to feature local artist Luna Lee for her debut exhibition.  Luna is a liquid art specialist and her exhibition is open Thursday 3 May to Tuesday 8 May.  We are also excited to celebrate New Zealand Music Month with two live music gigs for our young people.  Supported by APRA and the Mt Eden Village Centre, the concerts are on Friday 18 May and Saturday 19 May.  More information in our next newsletter.
Best wishes
